Isabel’s House

About Us

Our History

Isabel’s House was started as a Signature Project of the Junior League of Springfield, which grew out of the League members’ shared desire to address child abuse and neglect in Springfield/Greene County – an indicator that has been reported as a persistent red flag beginning in the 2005 CFO Community Focus Report. The creation of Isabel’s House was rooted in careful planning and research, including visits to other successful crisis nurseries around the nation and several committees comprised of area leaders and business professionals.

Research for the project that would become Isabel’s House began in 2005, and it took almost two full years for the resulting plans to be realized in the establishment of a Board of Directors, the recruiting of essential staff and volunteers, the creation of thorough policies and procedures, the construction and state licensing of the facility, and the outreach and education of referral partners in the community. The placement of the Isabel’s House building was made possible through a partnership with the Springfield – Greene County Parks Board, which allowed the facility to be located in a beautiful setting with plenty of green space and play space nearby.

A number of families, foundations, area businesses, and other charity partners were involved in the opening of Isabel’s House, including Burrell Behavioral Health, the City of Springfield, Cox Health, Community Partnerships of the Ozarks, Missouri State University, Mercy, and the United Way of the Ozarks, and the building itself was made possible through an enduring investment made by the O’Reilly and Wooten Family Foundations.
